Taekwondo Federations

World Taekwondo Federation Taekwondo is a full contact sport where you are allowed to kick to the head (throwing punches to the head are not allowed), it is not very dangerous to practice Tae kwon do in the proper circumstances with a qualified instructor. Whilst sport fighting, full body protection is used to protect the competitors heads. To reduce any chance of a head injury, a competitor would not be allowed to participate in a competition for the next three months if he or she was knockedoutt by a blow to the head. If this should happen again after these three months, they would not beallowed to compete for half a year. Another K.O. to the head after this six month period results in a final exclusion of competitions.

International Taekwondo Federation Tae kwon do is only semi-contact. Practitioners not allowed to attack the head with full force. Although, it is allowed to throw punches to the head, by using the so-called “killing-blow”, stop just an inch before the target. To reduce injuries, ITF use gloves at sparring-competition.
