I notice that I can usually add about 2.5 pounds to the weight I can lift for most exercises a week. How much can you?

A good rule of thumb is do 3X10 and if you can complete the third set for the second time increase the weight.
Depending on your goals determines how you continue to add weight or change your routine.
You will reach a point where adding additional weight is dangerous.
It is easy to blow out a shoulder with too much weight.
